New Resource Enhances Brain Health Assessment for Adults With Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

New Resource for Brain Health Assessment

A new companion to the GSA KAER Toolkit for Brain Health has been developed to help clinicians and caregivers promote brain health and detect cognitive changes early in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The resource supports person-centered brain health promotion in individuals with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities (I/DD), as presented at the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association Annual Conference (GAPNA) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Traditional cognitive assessment tools often fall short for adults with I/DD, highlighting the need for validated clinical tools to accurately and promptly detect cognitive impairment.

Mainstream cognitive assessment tools are often insufficient for adults with I/DD.

The new companion resource aims to address this gap, providing a valuable tool for clinicians and caregivers.

Author's summary: New resource enhances brain health assessment for adults with I/DD.
