Fears raised that specialist Vulcan MoD work could shift to Sellafield

Fears Raised Over Specialist Vulcan MoD Work

Concerns have been raised that plans to transfer the clean-up of Vulcan to Dounreay could lead to the break-up of a specialist Ministry of Defence (MoD) team in the north.

The MoD has not commented on speculation that the transfer of the Rolls-Royce workforce to NRS Dounreay could result in future work supporting the UK nuclear submarine fleet being moved to Sellafield in west Cumbria.

A Vulcan worker has expressed that the transfer has triggered a lot of disquiet.

The UK government has confirmed that the decommissioning of Vulcan will be undertaken by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), which currently oversees the clean-up of redundant civil nuclear reactor sites.

Author's summary: Fears arise over potential break-up of MoD team.
