According to Pastor Howard, his strong work ethic was instilled in him by Pastor Garland Sentell of Pickens, S.C., who visited every patient at the local hospital daily. His use of alliteration in sermons was inspired by Dean M. Weaver, pastor of Forest Hill Baptist Church in Anderson, S.C.
