The Massachusetts Senate has unanimously approved a bill to broaden the state’s Move Over law, aiming to improve roadside safety for motorists and utility workers.
According to a Senate press release, the measure requires drivers to slow down and switch lanes when passing utility trucks and disabled vehicles with flashing lights stopped on the shoulder.
The new proposal increases fines for first-time violations and imposes harsher penalties for repeat offenders.
The bill now moves to the House for further consideration.
