Chinook Salmon Fishing Closed on Umatilla River
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is closing the Umatilla River to chinook salmon fishing from October 18 to November 30, due to low numbers of returning fish and increasing harvest rates.
The closure affects the section of the river from the Highway 730 bridge upriver to Threemile Dam, and is intended to ensure enough fish are collected for breeding and to support the long-term sustainability of the chinook fishery.
- Daily bag limit for steelhead remains three fish.
According to a press release from the agency, the closure is necessary to protect the chinook fishery.
