Uzbekistan Launches First SMR Build

Uzbekistan has begun construction of a low-power nuclear power plant (NPP) using the RITM-200N reactor, a project undertaken by Rosatom and Uzatom.

The site, located in the Farish district of the Jizzakh region, will also host two high-power VVER-1000 units and two RITM-200N units, combining large and small reactors on one site.

“Today we begin a new stage in the implementation of the project to create nuclear generation in Uzbekistan,” said Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev.

The first stage of the project involves the development of a pit for the ASMM with a RITM-200N reactor, requiring the removal of approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of soil to a depth of 13 meters.

Author's summary: Uzbekistan starts building low-power NPP with RITM-200N reactor.
