Purdue University plans to purchase the Canal Square Apartments in downtown Indianapolis as part of its expansion efforts in the city.
The four-story building, located along the canal, currently has nearly 500 beds. The university aims to increase its student population in the city from approximately 2,600 to over 10,000.
"This is a long-term play. So in the near term, not much is going to change,"
Derek Shultz, a spokesperson for Purdue in Indianapolis, stated that the university will honor current leaseholders and has no plans to deny renewals in the immediate future.
The acquisition is expected to support Purdue students and working professionals in the city.
