John Singleton, a renowned director, initially dismissed television, comparing it to selling drugs: "Once you get in, there's no getting out." However, he later dabbled in TV, signing a development and production deal with Warner Bros. TV in 1997.
Singleton's foray into television included a six-episode commitment for CRASH, a drama about the LAPD SWAT team, and later, a show with Tyger Williams at FX, as well as an hour-long drama, Trade, sold to Showtime in 2007.

Despite his initial reservations, Singleton eventually created one of the most important shows about Black Los Angeles, Snowfall, for the small screen.
