Deforestation for Soy Continues in Brazilian Cerrado

Despite the looming European Union's anti-deforestation law (EUDR), agricultural producers in Brazil's Cerrado savanna continue to clear land for soy.

A recent investigation by Earthsight, a nonprofit organization, found that two of the three producers identified in their "Secret Ingredient" report continued to clear land for soy in the past year.

The "Secret Ingredient" report established links between chicken sold by McDonald's and at supermarkets in Europe, and soy produced on deforested land in the Cerrado.

This makes their product noncompliant with the EUDR, which was due to come into force in December.

Author's summary: Deforestation for soy continues in Brazil's Cerrado despite EU law.
