Survivors of domestic abuse are being failed by a lack of funding in the family courts, according to a new report by the Domestic Abuse Commissioner (DAC).
The report, Everyday business: Addressing domestic abuse and continuing harm through a family court review and reporting mechanism, found that domestic abuse is a prevalent issue in the family courts, with the majority of cases identifying it as a problem.
Everyone should be able to live their lives free from violence and fear.
Law Society of England and Wales president Mark Evans stated that despite the hard work of judges, lawyers, and court staff, years of underfunding from the government means domestic abuse survivors do not receive the public service they need from the family courts.
Author's summary: Domestic abuse survivors are failed by under-funded family courts.
