The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to a Meerut resident accused of uploading a WhatsApp video featuring the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan with allegedly provocative dialogue.
A video on Javed's WhatsApp status used a film clip suggesting citizens wanted leaders removed, and therefore, both PMs urged "war" to keep people silent for 5 years.
The content of the video did not attract the ingredients of Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which penalizes acts prejudicial to the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India.
A single-judge bench of Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal allowed the bail plea filed by Javed, who was booked under Section 152 BNS for allegedly circulating objectionable content online.
An FIR was registered at Jani Police Station, Meerut.
