Audi is reportedly working on a luxury off-road SUV to compete with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Defender.
The new model would slot above the road-focused Q7 and Q9, with CEO Gernot Döllner hinting at the project, saying "stay tuned" when asked about a four-wheel-drive model.
"I think there is a space for a third one,"
former design boss Marc Lichte said in 2023, referencing the potential for an Audi luxury off-road SUV in a segment currently dominated by only two models.
Despite likely lower sales than the Q7 and upcoming Q9, Döllner believes there is a market for the new model, stating "there is no niche banner" and "it's just the opposite".
Audi recently revealed the Activesphere, an electric off-road concept, further fueling speculation about the brand's off-road ambitions.
