Wildlife officials are investigating an incident where a driver allegedly plowed through a flock of shore birds at Port Canaveral, killing dozens and injuring others.
A volunteer from Wild Florida Rescue rushed to the scene near a cargo dock at the port, where they found the shore birds with broken wings and legs.
A "disturbing and deliberate act" is how rescuers described the incident.
Rescuers attempted to save the birds by taking them to the Florida Wildlife Hospital, but many were too badly hurt and couldn't be saved.
Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife and the FWC, are investigating the incident, with the FWC having a suspect.
