A stroke at 31 compromised his painting hand, but it may have made him a better artist. Jared Hankins noticed a change in his art as he began to enjoy covering his canvases with clouds in various shades of black and white.
Another subject that fascinated him was detailing the dips and climbs of rollercoasters, which would evoke screams from even the most stoic individuals.
“These subjects were metaphors for the previous 10 years of my life and what I’d been through,”he said.
The decade that started on July 8, 2006, began with a stroke, which occurred the night after Hankins hosted an event at his Denver gallery. Despite having a couple of beers, he felt fine when he got home, but woke up the next morning with an excruciating headache.
