DUI Arrests on Big Island Roadways
A total of 12 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) during the week of Oct. 6-12 on Big Island roadways.
According to the Hawai‘i Police Department, this brings the total number of DUI arrests to 708 so far this year, which is a 7.69% decrease from the 767 arrests made during the same period in 2024.
Four of the arrested drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and none of them were younger than 21 years old. The arrests were distributed across the island, with 6 in Kona, 3 in Hilo, 2 in South Kohala, and 1 in Puna.
In addition to the DUI arrests, the Hawai‘i Police Department reported 794 major crashes so far in 2025, which is a 3.25% increase from the 769 major crashes reported by the same time last year.
