The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has received a report from His Majesty's Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI) following a follow-up inspection of the 2020 joint inspection, "Joint Inspection evidence led domestic abuse prosecutions".
The 2020 inspection examined the handling of evidence-led domestic abuse prosecution cases by the police and the CPS, resulting in four recommendations for improvement. The follow-up report assesses the progress made to date.
Over the past five years, the CPS has implemented the report's recommendations at both local and national levels. The HMCPSI has recognized the progress made in establishing mechanisms and frameworks to support effective case handling.
We are encouraged by HMCPSI's recognition of the progress made to ensure the right mechanisms and frameworks are in place to support effective case handling; however, we are aware there is more work to be done to fully implement the recommendations.
