Naomi Osaka Overcomes Injury to Defeat Defending Champion
Naomi Osaka, the first seed and home favorite, is pursuing her first title at the Japan Open.
Osaka faced a challenging match against defending champion Suzan Lamens in the fourth round. Although Osaka won the first set, she struggled to capitalize on her lead in the second set.
The match took a concerning turn when Osaka injured her left leg during the third set. Despite the injury, Osaka initially decided to continue playing. However, she soon requested a medical timeout and returned to the court with a strapped left thigh.
