Heated exchanges amid row over who should represent the Mayor of Limerick at local events

Dispute Over Representation at Local Events

Councillors in the Adare/Rathkeale Municipal District have expressed dissatisfaction with the selection process for representing the Mayor of Limerick at local events.

A heated discussion arose during their October meeting regarding the protocol for choosing representatives for official events within the district.

The issue began when Cllr Stephen Keary questioned who attended the opening of the new graveyard in Askeaton, to which it was noted that independent councillor Tommy Hartigan represented the Mayor.

Cllr Ger Ward explained he was initially invited to attend but was unable to do so due to travelling to New York for the Ryder Cup.
