A New York man, Daniel Grubert, is facing charges in Florida for allegedly causing a watercraft crash that injured two children on Sunday, authorities said.
The incident occurred near John's Pass, a historic coastal fishing village and boardwalk in Madeira Beach. Two children, ages 7 and 8, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators say Grubert, 48, was operating a rented 2024 Yamaha WaveRunner when the collision occurred. He allegedly was not looking ahead and took his eyes off his direction of travel.
Grubert was booked on two counts of BUI causing serious bodily injury and one count of reckless operation of a vessel.
Authorities responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday to a report of a personal watercraft collision.
