Due to the law at the time, minors were not allowed to access HIV services without parental consent, leaving Krang feeling scared and alone. Fortunately, a compassionate clinic worker helped him get tested, paving the way for treatment.
A Landmark HIV Law
In 2018, the Philippines passed Republic Act 11166, a landmark HIV law that allows people as young as 15 to access HIV testing and treatment without parental consent.
The law has opened the door to a more inclusive and compassionate HIV response.
This significant change in policy has made a profound difference in the lives of young people like Krang, ensuring they can take control of their health without fear of judgment or repercussions.
